Reclaiming Dignified Life Cycles

Unearthing Tradition is a holistic wellness organization, offering life cycle support, that exists to create unapologetic healing spaces for Black folks to exhale, especially in the midst of sacred transitions.

Simmons

Founder & Creative Director

Briana Simmons (she/her) is a life cycle facilitator, creative, advocate, and the founder of Unearthing Tradition. Originally from Kansas City, MO, her life path has taken her to Jacksonville, FL where she believes her passion for community care and mind/body/spirit attunement can be realized as a vehicle for personal and collective liberation.

As a Black, queer femme with big Hoodoo energy, she is committed to unearthing dignified cycles between life and death, especially for Black, LGBTQIA+, and/or spiritual folk. Her work is anchored by personal practice, intuition, and working directly with clients and families. Briana finds doing this work through cultivating creative collaborations, speaking/writing, organizing, making holistic wellness products, and offering 1-1 or group lifecycle support services to be most expansive.

As a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., she has upheld the pillar of scholarship by earning a B.S. in Journalism in 2015 followed by a M.A. in International Human Rights in 2017.

Our Philosophy

Unearthing Tradition is both a personal promise and call to action for our communities to reclaim ancestral practices, embody our innate divinity, and step into our power with community and within ourselves.

  • What ancestral knowledge is ours to unearth and reclaim that will forge us into a dignified future?

  • Does nurturing the sacredness of life cycle transitions allow us to more fully embody our innate divinity?

  • What is possible when we step into our power with community and within ourselves to proclaim response-ability to one another?
