End of Life

Death doulas are skilled and trained non-medical professionals providing informational, emotional, spiritual and practical support to an individual and their loved ones before, during, and/or after a death. As a life cycle facilitator, I strive to make the death, dying and grieving process less taboo, extra extra ordinary, and incredibly beautiful.

At Unearthing Tradition, we acknowledge all our clients as the experts in their own care and journey alongside them to unearth needs, desires, and wishes for the end of their life. I help my clients to achieve a dignified death in whatever ways they define it and create opportunities for a sacred transition.

Services Available

Planning

It is never too early to start planning for the end of your life. I help to ease my client’s fears and anxieties about death/dying to go toward empowered decision making. While very important, documenting your wishes at the end of life go far beyond an advance directive. I support clients in notating a full range of decisions to consider at the end of life.

Obituary & Eulogy Writing

When given the opportunity, what would you say to capture the essence of someone you love who has passed on? I work with my clients to create truth telling about the life their loved ones leave behind.

Bedside Care

Folks who are facing death deserve a holistic and robust care team of chosen family, medical, and non-medical support. I provide respite care for caregivers (the unspoken heroes of the world), end of life planning, and logistical support for in-home funeral services.

Legacy Projects

Everybody is somebody and there are so many parts of our stories to tell. I use storytelling and various other mediums to co-create a project reflective of you or your loved one’s life, giving voice to their mark on the world.

Grief Facilitation

Change is inevitable and with change also comes grief. Our personal insight that your grieving process can be transformed through awareness tools and loving community is what guides our grief facilitation work. One of our main offerings is Crossroads: A Death Circle Gathering where all Black folks are invited to come, exhale, and share their truths.

Event/Workshops

I curate and facilitate gathering spaces designed to explore death, dying, and grief through education and experience oriented sessions. These sessions blend various modalities to cater to a client's unique needs. Please complete the contact form to express interest. Pricing varies as it depends upon your unique needs.

What people are saying

“When I think of Unearthing Tradition or share about Bree's work, the words that come to mind are "caring", "authentic", and "embodied". If you are considering working with Unearthing Tradition, I would recommend it to anyone who wants to feel cared for by someone who puts their heart into the work; anyone who wants to feel validated, affirmed, and empowered as they navigate life's most challenging transitions; and anyone who desires to be tended to by a company that puts humanity at the center of all they do.
