13 Questions Making A Consultation Conversation Worth Your Time!

At Unearthing Tradition, consultation time with a potential doula client should feel like an informal interview. Not only are we in conversation about your needs and my services, but we’re also getting to know one another personally. As many questions can be answered by browsing my website, I'd suggest using our time to go deeper or gain clarity. It is really important that we address what will help us discern if we’re a good fit to work with one another.
Sometimes, pregnant folks and their partners are unsure of what to ask. When setting up a consultation with your potential doula, consider these questions to make the most of your consultation.

Why did you choose to become a doula and what drives you to continue the work?

  1. Where did you receive training and how has it equipped you to support pregnant people?

  2. Do you seek continuing education opportunities?

  3. What is your doula philosophy?

  4. How would you describe your doula style?

  5. What comfort measures and techniques do you offer within your doula care?

  6. X, Y, and Z are really important to me. Are you skilled, trained, or connected to other providers in these areas?

  7. How will you work with the rest of my birth team? (partner, family, friends, health care providers, etc.)

  8. My needs are unique in this way. Are you comfortable supporting this?

  9. What will take place during our prenatal and postpartum sessions?

  10. Does the rest of your life (doula caseload, other jobs, childcare needs, etc.) support your fullest availability to your doula cliente?

  11. What is your fee? Do you have options available to assist low income families in accessing your services?
